Liberty Magnet MIssion Statement

Liberty Magnet, an International Baccalaureate School, is committed to assisting all students in becoming compassionate, responsible, lifelong learners dedicated to productivity in a global society.

What is IB?

IB is short for International Baccalaureate, a world-renowned educational organization. The International Baccalaureate Organization was founded in 1967 to offer a strong educational program implementing best practices in education to children of European diplomats and ambassadors. It began as the Diploma Programme for high school, and in the 1990s, the organization developed a Middle Years Programme (middle school) and a Primary Years Program (elementary school). Extracurricular Activities

Liberty Magnet offers various activities before and after school. Some of these activities are free of charge and some have fees.

ART CLUB: Available to fifth graders, Art Club meets weekly before school. Students create various projects including clay pots, silk painting, tile painting, and much more!

JOGGING CLUB: Available to all students, Jogging Club meets every morning before the 8:40 bell. Students jog around the trail with Coach Barrett.

LIBERTY CHORUS: A choral ensemble of 4th and 5th graders that sing a variety of songs such as “pop,” patriotic, multi-cultural, and holiday. This ensemble rehearses twice a week before school and performs at school and in the community. Members of this ensemble are accepted based on their level of commitment and their desire to sing!

EAGLE ORFF ENSEMBLE: An instrumental ensemble of 4th and 5th graders that learn to play xylophones, metalophones, glockenspiels and a variety of unpitched percussion instruments such as drums and shakers. This group rehearses twice a week before school and performs at school and in the community. Members of this ensemble are chosen based on an audition which takes place at the beginning of the school year.

SNAG GOLF: A global program, SNAG GOLF is offered after school by local golf professional Roger VanDyke. It is available to all students.

MARTIAL ARTS: Taught by fourth-degree black belt Chelsea Clements, this program offers Karate, Jiu Jitsu, sparring and more. Held on Tuesdays and Thursday in the multipurpose room.

TUTORING: Available to all students if space is available.

TWIRLERS:  Performing Group Open to all Liberty Magnet Students; K-5.  Skills taught in Marching, Dance and Baton Twirling.  Twirlers Meet every Wednesday right after school on the Covered Hard-court.  Pick-up time is 3:55 at the bus loop.

Extended Day Program

Purpose: The Extended Day Program provides services for parents who need support to decrease the number of latch key children. It is designed to enrich children's lives educationally, socially, emotionally, and physically in a safe and familiar setting. The program is open on regular school days.

Who May Attend: All children in grades K - 5 may attend that can function in a group setting of staff to student ratio of 1:20.

Activities: Program hours are 7 - 8:15 a.m. and at the close of the school day until 6:00 p.m. A wide variety of enrichment activities including arts and crafts, computers, music, games, homework assistance, and outdoor activities are offered at each site. Nutritious snacks are also served during the program.

Regular Fees: $25.00 a week for first child 
$20.00 a week for each additional child
3 Day Fee: $15.00 a week (any 3 days)
Morning Fee:

$10.00 a week

 

Cost:

Because all programs close at 6:00 p.m., overtime charges will be assessed: $10.00 per child every 15 minute increment.

Registration: Registration forms must be completed and a $10.00 registration fee paid before a child may participate in the program. Medical, emergency contact, and special needs information are required.

Payment of Fees: Weekly fees must be paid on Monday or the first school day of the week. Payments may be by check unless a check has been returned for insufficient funds. In such cases, all future payments must be in cash or money order. Weekly receipts are issued and should be retained for income tax reporting services. The School District of Indian River County, Florida taxpayer identification number for such purposes in 59-6000-673.

Sign-Out: In the interest of safety, the parent or guardian is expected to sign his child out of the Extended Day Program each day. NO child will be released to a person not authorized in writing by the custodial parent on file with the program. Persons not recognized by the staff will be asked to show identification.

Discipline: Positive reinforcement is used in dealing with children. Input from parents concerning problems at home which may affect a child's behavior is welcomed. If problems persist and affect the safety of the other children in the program, The Extended Day staff reserves the right to suspend and/or expel a child from the program. Actions include verbal warning, time out (removal from group or activity) and/or termination from the program.

Cold Weather Wear 

Jeans are ONLY allowed on Fridays. For cold weather on Monday-Thursday, students must wear khaki or navy blue uniform pants OR red, white, or blue sweatpants. The sweatpants must be PLAIN, one color without stripes or other decoration and they must NOT have any logos or writing on them.

ALL SWEATERS, SWEATSHIRTS, AND FLEECE TYPE (SWEATSHIRT LIKE) JACKETS must be a solid color, no stripes or decorations, etc. They can NOT have any logos or writing, other than the Liberty logo.

Thicker jackets and coats for really cold weather may be school appropriate, any color, but will be removed in the classrooms.

* Sweatshirt-School Logo sweatshirt or red, white or navy-collared shirt underneath

Liberty plaid is available at the uniform shops (located in Vero Beach) and the French Toast Catalog. Other pieces may be purchased at Sears, JC Penney, Macy’s, Dillard’s, Target and Wal-Mart.

* Shorts, skorts, skirts, jumpers or long pants in navy or khaki must be worn at the waist, with shirt/blouse tucked in. Shorts, skorts, skirts and dresses must be no shorter than fingertip in length.

* Any shorts or pants that have belt loops must have a belt worn at all times.

* "Liberty" plaid jumper, dress, skort, shorts or skirts in our red, white or navy blue can be worn for girls.

* On cold weather days, students may wear sweat pants in red, white, or navy blue.

* Spirit tee shirts are only to be worn on Friday with jeans or jean shorts.

Parents/Legal Guardian of students with inappropriate uniform attire will be contacted and asked to bring replacement clothing to school.
